When the São Paulo-based brand Bertolucci invited us to design a new series of lamps as a part of their 2012/2013 collection, our strategy was very simple: let’s dig deep into Bertolucci’s warehouse and genuine manufacturing process to find our inspiration!
After over a week of research in the factory, we noticed old shelves full of dusty wooden lamp molds. They were the result of the lamps designed by the company’s founder in the 60s and 70s, Mr. Bertolucci’s the grandfather.
We selected twenty-one from the over one hundred molds we found in a factory to use in the creation of our lamp.
After that aesthetic recycling, we started to test different materials used in Bertolucci’s traditional handcraft manufacturing process. Copper, aluminum and brass elements were combined and alternated vertically to emit LED light in a chromatic rhythm.
We called the result of this process Nonno, which means grandfather in Italian, as a tribute to the brand’s founder. The product is edited in three sizes and comes in two finishes: raw metals or white varnish.
