The “Peque” stool is ultra-light furniture, produced entirely in banded laminated bamboo (bamboo plywood).
Researching the inherent mechanical properties of bamboo fibers, we reached a highly elastic and resistant object.
The design strategy of the stool is based on a biomimicry process made through FEM software. Furthermore, the vertebral bones section inspires the morphology of the object section.
“Peque” is produced by lamination of bamboo (Phyllostachys pubescens). With that process we got bamboo panels with only 1,5mm of thickness and excellent mechanical and esthetic characteristics. The bamboo “sheets” are then applied in the moulds are glued with organic resin.
As well sustainable, the mould used for the process of lamination, is constructed from identical layers of CNC machined MDF panels (certified by FSC – Forest Stewardship Council).
The final finishing is made by an tinny bamboo sheet (0,7mm) that protects the external area of the objet, while the inside part is varnished with ecological paint (water based – non toxic).
“Peque” is a result of two years research between the architect and designer Marko Brajovic and the brazilin bamboo manufacturing company TIVA Design.
